BRING DOWN THE LIGHTS

What is a twilight shoot?

What is a twilight shoot?

A twilight shoot is when a photographer shoots images of a house, usually the exterior, during a time of day where the sun provides just enough natural light to illuminate the house, but leaves enough darkness to allow the artificial lights (any lights on the home) to be clearly visible. Although this is most commonly done right at sunset, the same effect can be accomplished at sunrise as well.

What's the point?

What's the point?

Because there is less sunlight present, a twilight shoot often creates a better opportunity to showcase key features of the home such as the lighting in and around the home, a pool that's lit up, a fire pit, etc. These images are usually much more visually appealing than your standard exterior, daylight photos. They serve as great cover images for a property, as they are much more likely to grab the attention of someone scrolling through generic images of homes.

How many images do I get?

How many images do I get?

Each individual photographer can only shoot one house during a twilight time slot, and the amount of time the photographer has with optimal lighting is relatively brief. Because of this, twilight sessions are booked as a whole session as opposed to paying per image. This allows the photographer to use the entire time to get as many high-quality shots as possible. That being said, the photographer typically can get as many or as few images as necessary to display the entire exterior of the home. For an average-sized home, a twilight session typically results in 5 images that make it all the way through the editing process.
